ACU Shines in Final Home Meet

ABILENE – Abilene Christian impressed as the home team on Thursday, including a regional qualifying mark, at the Oliver Jackson Twilight.
Zoe Burleson had a big day, turning in a West Region top 20 discus hurl of 178-6, which also is a top-three all-time outdoor mark at ACU.
"We had some great performances today," said ACU Head Coach Jerrod Cook. "Really excited to see Zoe throw a big throw in the discus that will secure her a regional spot. We had some big PRs across the event areas. So grateful for the weather and excited to see our team taking big strides at our home meet. I'm really excited about these steps going into the conference meet."
In addition to winning the discus, Burleson took the shot put as well with a heave of 49-6.25. Skylar Harris was sixth at 39-11.5 and Natalie Poe had a toss of 33-5.25.
Kailey Roskop was second in the hammer at 163-11 and fourth in the discus at 150-0. Rounding out the women's throwing events, Kaitlyn Callaway was fourth in the javelin at 125-6, followed by Jessica Campbell at 124-8, Harris at 117-2 and Poe at 100-6.
Ella Anttila won the triple jump at 42-2.75 and the long jump at 19-9.75. Payton Kirk was second in the long jump at 19-8.75 and won the pole vault at 12-6.75. Also in the long jump, Ja'Dasia Sims cleared 18-4.25, Poe jumped 17 feet and Paige Boucher got 16-11.5. Sims placed second in the high jump at 5-6 with Harris at 4-8.25.
On the track, Irene Rono won the 1500 at 4:32.68, followed by Grace White in third at 4:36.72. Peyton Bornstein came in at 4:46.25, Prudence Kiyeng at 5:00.30 and Katelyn Coldicott at 5:09.16.
Riley Pyeatt, Bella Evans, GRacyn Reed and Breonna McCarthy Reese won the 4x400 relay at 3:52.64 after the 4x100 team of Savannah Walker, Kirk, D'anna Smith and Ja'Kaylon Sabbath took second at 45.68.
Pyeatt was second in the 800 at 2:14.58, followed by Evans at 2:19.58, McCarthy Reese at 2:25.90 and Kate Hansen at 2:26.55.
Sims placed third in the 400 at 54.59 with Reed coming in at 58.85.
Walker was third in the 200 at 23.87, followed by Smith at 24.69, Sabbath at 24.90 and Hannah Foster at 25.17. Foster also was sixth in the 100 at 12.19.
ACU got fifth in the 400 hurdles with Courtney Latham at 1:03.22 and fifth in the 100 hurdles with Boucher at 14.13. Kirk ran a 14.49, followed by Campbell at 16.03, Harris at 16.84 and Poe at 16.91.
Men's field athletes had a field day. Athan Huelskamp and Nathanial Collier went 1-2 in the shot put, respectively, with heaves of 5-55.75 and 51-11.25. Ethan Christian had a toss of 35-5.75. Christian won the javelin at 179-8. Collier was third in the discus at 177-2 with Huelskamp in fourth at 165-7.
Jacob Thomas led the leapers with a pole vault of 15-9.75 for fourth place while Donovan Ramirez was eighth in the triple jump at 46-3.5 and Caleb Lawrence cleared 20-7.25 in the long jump.
ACU made the most of single-entrant races in the 3000 steeplechase where Maxwel Kiplagat won in 9:25.75 and in the 800 where Cooper Goggans held off the competition for first at 1:51.09.
Jack Marshall won the 200 meters at 20.92, followed by Jared Williams at 21.65, Jamal January at 21.71, Addison Franklin at 21.81, Tyce Chaney at 21.88, Matthew Mills at 21.93 and Charlie Lee-Alliston at 23.00. Marshall was second in the 100 at 10.32, followed by Franklin at 1072, William Harris at 10.78, Joseph Baluti at 11.32 and Lee-Alliston at 11.37.
January (14.03) and Jeremy King (14.25) went 1-2 in the 110 hurdles with Christian at 15.39.
Neal Helgerson took second in the 5000 at 15:22.36, followed by Gabe Trevino at 15:27.12.
Gabe Embree was ninth in the 1500 at 4:02.99 with Keaton Raney running it at 4:02.99, Kevin Castruita at 4:08.99, Levi Chambers at 4:09.19, Luke Hernandez at 4:14.80 and JP Trook at 4:17.67.
Christian ran the 400 in 50.47.
