2021-2022: Indoors – won the long jump at the WAC championship (jumping an indoor long jump PR of 20-0.25/6.10m), while also finishing 8
th in the pole vault and 20
th in the 60 hurdles.
Outdoors – won the long jump at the WAC and also got 3
rd in the pole vault. In the Oliver Jackson Twilight she placed 2
nd in the long jump with an all-time best of 20-3.75/6.19m. She finished her season by placing 22
nd (out of a field of 48) in the long jump at the NCAA West Prelim meet.
2020-2021: Indoors – in the SLC 5
th long jump and 7
th in the pole vault, as well as getting in the 60 hurdles (PR time of 9.09). All T&F athletes can count this as a redshirt season due to the pandemic
. Outdoors – at the SLC, she placed 9
th in the 400 hurdles, and 10
th in both the 100 hurdles and long jump. Payton also won the Wes Kittley Inv long jump earlier that season with a PR jump of 20-1/6.12m – her first time jumping over the 20 foot barrier.
2019-2020: Indoors – Payton vaulted in the SLC championship, but did not score.
Outdoors -
season cancelled due to pandemic and all T&F athletes can count this season as a redshirt season.
2018-2019: Indoors – competed in the SLC championship in the pole vault and long jump, but did not score in the meet. She also placed 15
th the Texas Tech Classic pentathlon.
Outdoors – 10
th in the long jump and 14
th in the 400 hurdles, but she scored by running on the 5
th place in the 4x100.
Before ACU: In her senior year at Coppell HS, Payton competed in five events at the Region II-6A meet – getting 6
th in the long jump and 300 hurdles, 9
th in the pole vault, 15
th in the 100 hurdles and ran on the 4x200 relay.
Personal: Payton received her BS in Engineering Magna Cum Laude this past spring 2022. She graduated from Coppell HS in 2018. Parents are Jeff (a former T&F letterman at the University of Texas) and Laurie Kirk.
