EUGENE, Ore. – Two members of the Abilene Christian track and field team came away with strong showings at the 2026 USA Track & Field (USATF) U20 Outdoor Championships.
Arthur Jenkins and Justin Smithey, who each just completed their freshman years at ACU, competed against some of the country's best college freshmen and top high school track and field athletes.
Jenkins placed 4th in the field of 15 triple jumpers with a new personal-best of 15.60m (51 feet, 2.25 inches). Jenkins' jump is considered World U20 standard, meaning if he is eligible to be chosen for the future event. He placed just ahead of Big Sky champion Jamar Andrews from Sacramento State.
Smithey also set a new personal-best in the discus with a long attempt of 55.10m (180-9) with a 1.75kg disc. Smithey placed 12th out of 17 competitors, including ahead of throwers from Indiana State, Eastern Michigan, Wichita State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
The USATF U20 Championships served as a selection event with the 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships, which will also be held at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field in Eugene on Aug. 5-9.
