ALBUQUERQUE – Abilene Christian is fifth in the men's standings and sixth in the women's after a strong first day at the Western Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Athan Huelskamp had a big day with a school record in the weight throw, taking the conference title with a toss of 66 feet, 10 inches.

Eliza Lemberga was third in the pentathlon and
Brianna Brand had a new ACU top 10 time in the 60 meters to headline the women's efforts.

The men finished the day with 19 points and the women had 13.

Lemberg scored 3652 points and
Natalie Poe added 3298 for sixth to give ACU nine points in the pentathlon. Lemberga had 830 points in the 60-meter hurdles and won the pentathlon 800 for 806 points at 2:21.33.

The women's distance medley relay team of
Bella Evans,
Savannah McCaleb,
Jess Reyes and
Riley Pyeatt also scored from fifth place at 12:22.98.

Brand ran the 60 meters in 7.69 seconds.

Huelskamp got the win and 10 points for the Wildcats.
Rylan Smart also scored in the event with a throw of 58 feet for fifth place.

Levi Chambers placed fifth in the men's 5000 at 14:47.39.

Garrison Shindler placed eighth in the men's DMR for one point.

The Wildcats also pushed forward six runners into Tuesday's finals.

Goggans qualified in the 800, Shindler in the mile and

Harrison Manuel in the 60-meter hurdles all advanced for the men.
Ja'Dasia Sims and
Shiean Walters made the finals of the 400 meters.
