ABILENE - Abilene Christian women's tennis opens the month of March at the Teague Center to host No. 75 Wichita State at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Wildcats look to return to the win column after dropping a narrow 4-3 decision to New Mexico on Feb. 21.
At 2-7, ACU has won two of its last three matches, taking down Incarnate Word and Dallas Baptist before falling to New Mexico. The Wildcats captured the doubles point, although the Lobos claimed four wins in singles action.
Olivia Sears and Maria Cascos won their third doubles match in a row together and stayed hot as they each earned ACU's two singles victories. Masha Vrsalovic and Alice Klinteby also teamed up for a 6-1 win that secured the doubles point.
Wichita State enters with a 4-5 record after losing its last match to Iowa, 4-1. The Shockers had won their last three contests before taking on the Hawkeyes, beating Kansas State, Oral Roberts and Kentucky. They've also played the likes of Oklahoma, Nebraska and Kansas. Wichita State is 1-3 away from home this season.
Xin Tong Wang is the Shockers' mainstay on Court 1 in singles with a 3-2 record and a 4-2 mark overall, having won her last four matches. She's the 117th ranked individual by ITA after appearing at the NCAA Individual Championships in the fall. Anne Knuettel is 5-1 in singles across Courts 5 and 6, while Theodora Chantava is 4-3.
Chantava and Kristina Kudryavtseva make up Wichita State's most successful duo in doubles with a 5-1 mark. They've won their last three matches together.
The women's match will follow ACU men's tennis' meeting with Texas A&M-Texarkana, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Teague Center.
