
Women’s Tennis Sweeps Utah Tech in WAC Semifinals

ARLINGTON — ACU (9-13) defeated the Utah Tech University Trailblazers (11-12) in a dominant 4-0 performance in the semifinals of the Western Athletic Conference women's tennis team tournament Friday afternoon in Arlington.
The Wildcats started off strong by winning the doubles point with wins by Maria Cascos / Masha Vrsalovic, 6-1, and Victoria Correa / Angela Del Campo, 6-4. The third doubles court with the pairing of Jess Board / Alice Klinteby was also leading their match 6-5 before going unfinished.
In singles play, the team's freshmen played a big role in securing the victory for the Wildcats. Elsa Luthar won her match 6-4, 6-1 at court No. 6, and Correa defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles.
Vrsalovic won the deciding point for the Wildcats at No. 1 singles, defeating her opponent 6-2, 6-2.
Cascos and Klinteby were both leading in their matches before they went unfinished, and while Del Campo lost the first set at her court, she was forming a comeback in the second set.

The Wildcats will face No. 1 Tarleton State on Saturday at 10 a.m. in Arlington in the championship match of the final WAC Tennis Tournament.
The two previously played on April 11 in Stephenville for the final regular-season match for both teams. The Texans took the victory 4-0 on their home court, winning the doubles point and three straight singles. Correa's was the only singles match to go to a third set, in which she trailed 4-6, 6-2, 2-3 before the match went unfinished.
Tarleton State also found a sweep in the semifinals of the conference tournament against the host school, the UT Arlington Mavericks, on Friday morning.
