ARLINGTON — The women's tennis team (9-14) ended its season Sunday afternoon in the championship match of the 2026 Western Athletic Conference Tournament to Tarleton State University 4-0.
The match was originally scheduled for Saturday morning at 10 a.m. but was postponed a full 24 hours due to weather.
The Texans took control early by grabbing the doubles point as they defeated Victoria Correa / Angela Del Campo (6-1) and Jess Board / Alice Klinteby (6-3). Tarleton then went on to win three straight singles matches to clinch the championship win.
This was the Wildcats' first championship match in Div. I history. They had previously been to the semifinal match six times, but finally broke through to the final this year.
As a part of the Lone Star Conference in Div. II, the Wildcats won 25 championships from 1988-2013.
This season boasted a tough schedule for the Wildcats, playing schools like Texas Tech, New Mexico State and a home-and-home series with UT Arlington.
The team found a 4-2 win at New Mexico on Feb. 28 and totaled a 5-3 home record and 3-2 in neutral site matches.
The Wildcats were recognized on several occasions with conference player of the week awards. Klinteby and Masha Vrsalovic each won singles player of the week twice. Vrsalovic also added two doubles players of the week awards in her partnership with Maria Cascos.
