
Women’s tennis heads to last match after falling to Mean Green

DENTON — Abilene Christian University (8-12) fell to the University of North Texas (15-7) 4-2 on Thursday at the Waranch Tennis Complex. ACU secured singles victories at the No. 3 and No. 6 positions.
The Wildcats fared better in this matchup with the Mean Green than the meeting in Abilene on Feb. 20, when the Wildcats lost 6-1.
North Texas secured the doubles point against ACU by winning two of the three matches. At No. 2 doubles, Angela Del Campo / Victoria Correa nearly edged out UNT but the match went unfinished as the Wildcats trailed 5-4.
The Mean Green defeated Alice Klinteby / Jess Board 6-3 at No. 3 doubles, and clinched the doubles point as Masha Vrsalovic / Maria Cascos lost, 6-4.
In singles, ACU picked up wins with Del Campo and Elsa Luthar. Del Campo delivered a commanding performance at No. 3 singles, winning 6-3, 6-2, while Luthar secured a straight-sets victory at No. 6 singles, 6-4, 6-1. However, North Texas extended its lead with wins at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 5 singles, leading to a final dual score of 4-2 in favor of North Texas.
UP NEXT
The Wildcats will play their last regular season match when they travel to Stephenville to play the Tarleton State Texans on April 11, scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
The Texans are 14-6 this season, but will host North Texas Saturday afternoon.
This Western Athletic Conference match will be the season closer for both teams before they head to Arlington on April 17 to play in the WAC Tournament.
