
Wildcats Fall in Arlington to Conference Opponent

ARLINGTON — ACU fell to the University of Texas at Arlington 5-2 on Friday at the UTA Tennis Center in a Western Athletic Conference matchup. The Wildcats secured singles victories at the No. 1 and No. 4 positions but were unable to clinch the doubles point.
UT Arlington secured the doubles point with victories on courts two and three. At No. 3 doubles, Jess Board / Alice Klinteby fell 6-1. With the 6-2 loss for Victoria Correa / Angela Del Campo at No. 2 doubles, UTA clinched the doubles point. The match at No. 1 doubles featuring Maria Cascos / Masha Vrsalovic was left unfinished at 4-3.
In singles play, Vrsalovic earned first point for the Wildcats with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles. However, the Mavericks quickly responded, securing a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Cascos at No. 2 singles. UT Arlington extended its lead with a tight 7-5, 7-5 win over Correa in the No. 5 singles position.
Klinteby narrowed the gap for the Wildcats with a comeback victory at No. 4 singles, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. UT Arlington clinched the match with Del Campo's loss in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 3 singles. The Mavericks added their final point as Elsa Luthar fell in a three-set battle, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5, at No. 6 singles.
The Wildcats will get another chance to beat the Mavericks as they host UTA on April 1 in a conference rematch.
UP NEXT
The Wildcats will travel to Tulsa on March 27 with a 1 p.m. start time. The Golden Hurricane are 8-10 this season with all of their wins coming at home.
Tulsa will travel to UT San Antonio on March 22, a team the Wildcats defeated 4-3 in Abilene.
