ACU battles UTRGV to close first WAC weekend, turns focus to NMSU

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The ACU women's tennis team wrapped up a weekend of Western Athletic Conference play on Sunday, falling 4-3 at the hands of UTRGV. Maryjoe Criosologo won both her singles matches this week, doing so from the top flight on both occasions.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Wildcats dropped the doubles point, but the tandem of Crisologo and Andrea Guerrero was up 5-4 at the time of the clinch.
- UTRGV went up 2-0 before Crisologo got the Purple and White on the board with a 6-2, 6-2 victory in the top flight.
- Paula Garrote pulled ACU even with a 6-3, 6-1 win on Court 6, but the Vaqueros took the next two points to pick up the fourth and clinching point.
- Sylvia Viljoen battled through a marathon three-setter, dropping the first set 7-6 before storming back to win the second set 6-1. The Jackson, Miss. Native ended up taking the third set 10-6 to close out the day for the Wildcats.
UP NEXT:
- The Wildcats will host a Western Athletic Conference opponent for the first time next week, welcoming New Mexico State to Eager Tennis Pavilion. First serve of doubles action is slated at 11:00 a.m.
