Fisher clinches WTEN victory at Oral Roberts

ABILENE -- Freshman Claire Fisher snapped a 3-3 tie with a come-from-behind 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 victory at the No. 6 line over Flavia Gutierrez to deliver Abilene Christian women's tennis a 4-3 triumph over Oral Roberts Sunday morning in Tulsa.

ACU has now won its last six decisions vs. ORU; however, little came easy for the Wildcats' in this win as the Golden Eagles twice battled back from a pair of deficits to tie the score at 1-1 and 3-3.

The Wildcats' secured the doubles point thanks to wins at No. 1 and 3 and captured two of the first three singles matches with No. 2 junior Nini Memishishi and sophomore Allison Stewart each winning in straight sets.

ORU narrowed ACU's lead to 3-2 behind Aliksandra Lebedeva's 6-3, 7-6 win at No. 3 over freshman Andrea Guerrero, and tied the scored at 3-3 after Rai Sengupta completed a three-set comeback over junior Ileana Mocciola at No. 5.

Fisher's win was her team-best fourth of the season.

The Wildcats' road swing continues Friday with a 5 p.m. match at Texas Tech. ACU also will face North Carolina State in Lubbock Saturday at 5 p.m.
