ALBUQUERQUE – Abilene Christian added three event champions to its strong showing on the final day of the WAC Indoor Championships on Tuesday.
The ACU women finished sixth with 52 points and the men placed seventh with 48 points.
It was a big day for
Shiean Walters, who won the women's 400 meters in 54.14 and then was the leadoff leg of the conference champion 1600 relay team. Walters,
Savannah McCaleb,
Jess Reyes and
Ja'Dasia Sims captured first in 3:42.76 in the meet's final event. The relay claimed ACU's No. 3 spot all-time.
Ella Anttila cleared 13.07 meters to repeat as champion in the triple jump.
Luize Velmere, leaping 12.11 meters, was sixth, giving the Wildcats 13 points in their highest-scoring event on the women's side.
Sims cleared five feet, 9.75 inches to place third in the high jump for six points.
ACU also scored 13 points on Monday with
Eliza Lemberga getting third and
Natalie Poe sixth in the pentathlon and the distance medley relay team of
Bella Evans, McCaleb, Reyes and
Riley Pyeatt placing fifth.
For the men, ACU scored 29 points on Saturday, led by an 11-point event in the 60-meter hurdles.
Jeremy King was second in 7.95 and
Harrison Manuel, at 8.11, finished sixth. King's time was fourth on the ACU all-time list.
ACU scored six points in the heptathlon with
Canaan Fairley placing fifth with 5,124 points and
Ethan Christian getting seventh at 5,005.
Athan Huelskamp gave the Cats five points with his fourth-place finish in the shot put at 16.38 meters.
Cooper Goggans gave ACU another five points with his fourth-place finish in the 800 meters at 1:51.91.
The Wildcats added two points with
Kenan Reil,
Matthew Mills,
Tyce Chaney and Goggans placing seventh in the 1600 relay at 3:15.03.
The Wildcats accounted for 19 points on Friday.
Athan Huelskamp won the weight throw with a new school record and
Rylan Smart scored from fifth place in the same event – ACU's highest-scoring men's event with 14.
Also on Monday,
Levi Chambers placed fifth in the men's 5000 at 14:47.39.
Gabe Embree,
Kenan Reil,
Cooper Goggans and
Garrison Shindler placed eighth in the men's DMR for one point.
