Cats Pick Up Another Shutout
9/14/2023 8:45:00 PM | Women's Soccer
ABILENE – The Abilene Christian theme is getting familiar: shutout, multiple goals by Chayse Thorn. Win.
That song was on repeat Thursday night as ACU shut down Prairie View A&M 6-0 with Amelia Leggett and Thorn coming up with two goals each with one apiece by Taylor Denn and Peyton Hill.
The Wildcats got on the board with an unassisted goal by Thorn in the eighth minute but that was all the scoring in the first half as ACU took a 1-0 lead into the locker room.
"We remained disciplined after that first half," said ACU Head Coach Stephen Salas. "Sixth shutout; fifth win. Rough first half but we were composed in the second half. Very proud of the girls heading into Oklahoma State. We talk about discipline. It could have easily been 6-1 but we held our discipline and stayed composed and got the shutout."
Thorn got her fourth multi-goal game of the season, using a quick assist from Hill in the 57th minute for a 2-0 lead.
Leggett got her first goal of the season in the 76th minute, using a feed from Lox Neves.
The Cats broke loose for three more goals in the final six minutes. Hill got her second goal of the season in the 85th minute with an assist from Thorn. Leggett got her brace goal just 21 seconds later, using a feed from Denn.
Denn scored unassisted 31 seconds after that for the final margin.
For the game, ACU had 26 shots and put 12 of those on frame. Thorn led with seven shots and five shots on goal. ACU had two shots on goal each from Denn and Leggett and one apiece from Hannah Martin, Macie Stephens and Hill.
Julia Herges and Savanna Alba got the combined shutout with Herges collecting the lone ACU save.
ACU travel to Stillwater, Oklahoma, to take on Oklahoma State at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
