Women’s Soccer Crushes Tigers, Concludes Nonconference Schedule

ABILENE — Abilene Christian (3-2-3) defeated Texas Southern (1-8-1) 5-0 on Sunday. The Wildcats scored four times in the first half and finished with a 30-15 shot advantage, including 20 shots on goal.
The 5-0 victory is the most goals the Wildcats have scored in a single match since the 2023 season when they hosted Prairie View A&M University on Sept. 14, winning 6-0.
With goals scored by freshmen Addison Briscoe, Audrey Coppinger and MaKayla Galloway, the Wildcats showed promise for future seasons with the young talent on the roster. However, on their Senior Day, the seniors wanted to make their own mark on the game, with two out of the five seniors scoring goals and two tallying assists.Â
Baylie Simon found the net off of a corner kick for her first goal of the season, while Aliyah Anderson scored the fifth and final goal of the game for the Wildcats. Simon added an assist to her total from a corner kick that Briscoe headed into the net. Mikayla Abrenica also recorded an assist on Coppinger's goal.
Coppinger and Anderson both scored their second goal of the season, while Briscoe netted her third. Simon and Galloway each recorded the first of the season, while Galloway's was the first of her career.
Bella Medrano kept her sheet clean in goal, while she and Tavi Decker combined for the shutout after Decker entered the game in the 81st minute. The two totaled eight saves while facing 15 overall shots. The shutout is the fifth by the Wildcats as they conclude non-conference play.
The victory also gives the Wildcats a winning record heading into United Athletic Conference play, the first time the team has been above .500 after the nonconference portion since 2023.

The Abilene Christian soccer team will look to keep the offensive momentum found at home when it visits Little Rock on Thursday, Sept. 24, at Coleman Sports Complex in Little Rock, Arkansas, to open up conference play.
The Wildcats are currently in second place overall in the conference, trailing North Alabama, but are at the top of their division. The UAC is split into two divisions for soccer, allowing for each team to play the others in its division twice each and the teams in the opposite division once each, accounting for travel distance.Â
The Wildcats are in the "Red Division" alongside Tarleton State, Little Rock and Central Arkansas, while the "Blue Division" is made up of North Alabama, Eastern Kentucky, West Georgia and Austin Peay.
Thursday's game is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+.
