ABILENE — The Wildcat soccer team tied Tarleton State 1-1 Thursday. After equalizing the score, ACU withstood nine Texan attacking actions from the 69th to 81st minute without conceding. The two teams combined for 12 missed shots in the first half and went back to the locker rooms scoreless.
While ACU started on the attack early in the second half, it was the Texans that found the scoresheet first behind a 57th minute goal. Ten minutes later, the Wildcats had tied the game with Aliyah Anderson's fourth goal of the season.
The Wildcats continued to put pressure on Tarleton until the final whistle with shots from Shakira Kafero-Roberts, Sophia Saludares and Addison Briscoe, but none were able to find the goal, ending the match 1-1.
Anderson scored the Wildcats' goal, finishing with two points and putting her lone shot on frame. Briscoe led the team with six shots, including two on goal. Medrano played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded three saves. Raelin Miller added two shots, both on goal.
The draw with Tarleton allowed ACU to clinch a UAC tournament berth. However, the top seed is still up for grabs based on Sunday's match results.
If the Wildcats win and Tarleton State draws or loses to Central Arkansas, then ACU will win the Red Division. If ACU draws, then the Wildcats could clinch the Red Division with a Tarleton loss.
