JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Abilene Christian soccer's Addison Briscoe continued her sensational freshman campaign with United Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors, the UAC announced Monday. The forward scored in each of the Wildcats' road victories last week with goals against North Alabama and Austin Peay.
It's the sixth weekly award of the season for ACU, with half of those being received by freshmen after Audrey Coppinger earned back-to-back Defensive Player of the Week accolades in September. The Wildcats picked up a 1-0 victory against the Lions on Thursday before coming from behind for a 2-1 win versus the Governors on Sunday.
ACU remained undefeated in conference play at 3-0-2 and held its spot atop the Red division standings. The Wildcats are undefeated in their past seven matches.
"Addison has put herself in the position to be amongst the top candidates for Player of the Year in the UAC," head coach Stephen Salas said. "She has scored seven goals with three assists and 45 shots. What you don't see in the stats is the pressure she puts on opponents, either on or off the ball, as well as the dangerous chances she's created that lead up to goals. Addi loves her teammates and holds herself with great humility. She is constantly looking to refine areas of her game and continues to step up in big moments."
Briscoe has shined in her first season on campus, tying for the conference lead with seven goals. It's the most goals by an ACU freshman since Caylen Wright scored eight times in 2019. Briscoe ranks second in the UAC in shots (45), shots on goal (22) and points (17). She leads the Wildcats and the conference's freshmen in each statistic.
The Spring Branch, Texas product was the only player in the UAC to score in multiple matches last week. She paced the conference in shots and goals and ranked second in points. Briscoe has scored goals in five of her past six matches. She has started each of the Wildcats' 13 contests this season.
"This past weekend's performance came with an assist from Nia Leslie drawing a penalty kick and a great pass in the box from KK [Abrenica]," Salas said. "Addi's consistency has elevated this team to a streak of seven unbeaten games and remains at the top of the division with a 2-0 weekend. A great honor for Addi to earn! We know there's plenty of soccer to be played, so I am excited to see what she continues to do."
Briscoe delivered the game-winning goal in ACU's win at North Alabama after scoring on a penalty kick in the 20th minute. It was her second game-winning goal of the season. Briscoe fueled the Wildcats' attack with seven shots, including five on goal, in 84 minutes of action.
Briscoe followed with a 58th-minute equalizer versus Austin Peay after the Governors struck first. She was fed a pass by Mikayla Abrenica in the middle of the penalty area and deflected it off a defender and into the net. Briscoe tallied six shots in 81 minutes, connecting on her only attempt on target.
The Wildcats return to Elmer Gray Stadium for a pair of home contests this week. ACU hosts West Georgia at 7 p.m. Thursday for its Youth Game, then takes on Blue division leader Eastern Kentucky at 12 p.m. Sunday.
