Wildcat Soccer Dominates East Texas A&M For First Home Victory

ABILENE — Abilene Christian University (2-1-2) defeated East Texas A&M University (1-3-1) with a commanding 3-0 victory on Sunday at Elmer Gray Stadium. The win was secured by a strong performance in the second half, where the Wildcats scored two of their three goals.

The Wildcats' first goal at home came in the 19th minute courtesy of Shakira Kafero-Roberts, her first of the season. The goal came as a result of a free kick just outside the box taken by Baylie Simon, and after Gracie Kelly sent it across the face of the goal, Kafero-Roberts headed the ball into the back of the net.

Addison Briscoe scored her second goal of the season to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead seven minutes into the second half. Less than ten minutes later, Audrey Coppinger scored her first career goal after a header from Nia Leslie ricocheted off of the crossbar. Mikayla Abrenica assisted both second half goals.

Briscoe and Leslie led the team with four shots apiece, while Medrano made three saves before being subbed out in the 76th minute. The Wildcats recorded 17 total shots, seven of which were on goal.

Briscoe scored one goal and led her team with four shots, contributing significantly to the offensive efforts. Abrenica provided two assists, showcasing her playmaking abilities. Kafero-Roberts delivered the game-winning goal, solidifying her impact on the match. Bella Medrano, in her role as goalkeeper, recorded three saves and maintained a clean sheet in her 76 minutes on the field.

The next challenge for the Wildcats is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 3, as they travel to face the University of Tulsa. The match is set for 7 p.m. CT at Hurricane Soccer Stadium in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and will be streamed on ESPN+.
