Wildcats Lose First Road Game of the Season

TULSA, Okla. — Abilene Christian (2-2-2) lost to Tulsa (4-2) 2-0 on Thursday. The Wildcats were held to eight shots and three on goal, while their goalkeeper recorded eight saves against Tulsa's 10 shots on goal.
Tulsa gained an early advantage in the second minute with an early corner and went ahead at 1:55. The Wildcats put shots on goal soon after through Mikayla Abrenica, Nia Leslie and Charlise Smith, but the Golden Hurricane's goalkeeper made the saves, while Bella Medrano kept the margin at 1-0 with several saves of her own.
The Wildcats continued to hold the Golden Hurricane to just one goal for more than 80 minutes until Tulsa found the back of the net again in the 85th minute to slam the door on the Wildcats.
Medrano recorded eight saves while playing all 90 minutes in goal. Abrenica finished with two shots, including one on goal. Simon matched the team lead with two shots. Gracie Kelly continued her streak of playing all 90 minutes.
"Tulsa was probably one of the best teams we've played this season," head coach Stephen Salas said. "They did well in possession and punished us early to where we were chasing the game. We made some adjustments that improved our play but while going for the equalizer we conceded off our free kick in transition at the end. This will make us better for conference play which is coming up. We had a few key injuries where we had to make some adjustments. I know the team will respond well in our next two non-conference games."

The Wildcat soccer team will have 10 days off before it travels to San Antonio, Texas, to face Incarnate Word on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 1 p.m. The game will stream on ESPN+.
Incarnate Word has started 3-3-1 and will face UT San Antonio on Sept. 10 before facing the Wildcats.
