ABILENE — The women's tennis team fell to Texas State University 4-3 on Sunday afternoon in Abilene. The Wildcats secured victories in three singles matches but were unable to capture the doubles point, leading to the narrow defeat.
Texas State secured the doubles point with victories on courts one and three. Angela Del Campo / Victoria Correa were leading their doubles match 4-3, but the match went unfinished. Both the Alice Klinteby / Masha Vrsalovic and Jess Board / Elsa Luthar pairings lost 6-3.
The Wildcats responded in singles play, starting with Vrsalovic who posted a 6-1, 6-4 win. Del Campo added another point, defeating her opponent 6-3, 6-2. Correa secured a win with a decisive 6-0, 6-0 result.
Texas State won the other three singles matches, gaining the edge over the Wildcats in the match due to the doubles win. Luthar nearly won the first set against her opponent, forcing a tiebreaker, but ultimately fell in straight sets.

The Wildcats will have two more home matches this week, facing North Texas and Sam Houston State.
Sam Houston currently sits at 2-7 on the season. However, UNT is 3-3, but has three scheduled matches before facing the Wildcats on Friday.
