Wildcats Fight for Championship at WAC Tennis Invitational

The ACU women's tennis team begins play in the WAC Tennis Invitational on Thursday morning in St. George, Utah, with berths in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships up for grabs.

Two of the Wildcats' four seniors qualified for the fall conference tournament. Masha Vrsalovic and Alice Klinteby will take part in the eight-player singles draw which starts Thursday at 10 a.m. CT. Vrsalovic and Klinteby also will represent ACU in the four-team doubles draw beginning with the semifinals on Thursday and the championship on Friday.

Doubles matches begin each day at 2 p.m. CT or 60 minutes after the final singles match has ended, whichever comes first.

Vrsalovic in third seed in the singles draw and Klinteby is seeded seventh, which means if both win Thursday they will play each other in the a semifinal match on Friday. The singles championship will be played Saturday at 11:30 a.m. CT.

The event is at Utah Tech's Trailblazer Tennis Courts. Admission is free.

The winners of each draw earn an automatic spot in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships which is scheduled for Nov. 18-23 at the USTA National Champus in Orlando, Fla.

ACU hosted last year's inaugural singles and doubles WAC tournament as part of the NCAA's pilot program for a fall individual championship.
