LEXINGTON, Ky. – ACU's top four women's players will be in action action this weekend at the University of Kentucky Invitational, which will get underway Friday at the Hilary J. Boone Varsity Tennis Complex on the UK campus.
Jaclyn Walker, Julia Mongin, Dina Pavlin and Cassie Carver will all be in action this weekend against a field of mostly NCAA Division I opponents. Besides ACU, only one other NCAA Division II university will have players in the field: defending national champion Armstrong Atlantic State (Ga.).
In singles, Walker and Mongin will compete in the Flight C singles bracket, while Carver and Pavlin will compete in the Flight D singles bracket.
Walker will be the first Wildcat on the court Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. (Central time) when she takes on Minnette Pienaar of Kentucky. The winner of that match will advance to Saturday's quarterfinal round to take on the winner of the match between East Tennessee State's Andra Voinea and Penn State's Sarah Lotto.
Mongin will play at 11 a.m. against Hanna Blatt of Vanderbilt. The winner of that match will play Saturday against the winner of Friday's match between Riley Blanks of Virginia and Annie McCarthy of Illinois.
Carver will play at 10 a.m. Friday against Erica Robertson of Vanderbilt with the winner to take on the winner of Friday's match between Taylor Fournier of Michigan and Christine Stromberg of Illionois. Pavlin will also play Friday as she takes on Anais Hamel of Eastern Kentucky with the winner of the match taking on Maria Fuccillo of Virginia, who received a first-round bye.
In doubles play, Carver and Mongin will play at 3 p.m. Friday against a split team of Diana Navrotska from East Tennessee State and Allie Hefter from Penn State, while Pavlin and Walker will take on the Vanderbilt team of Rachel Dillon and Keilly Ulery.
Two weeks ago, Walker and Pavlin won the ITA South Central Region doubles championship and will play in the ITA Small College national championship tournament next week in Alabama.
Most of the rest of the women's roster and several players on the men's roster will be in action this weekend at the Collin County Community College Tournament.
For the ACU women, Natalie Friend, Lauren White, Hannah Kelley and Madison Hudson will be playing, while Luke Hawk, Brett Proctor, Dennis Roy, Cody McCarty, Karl Bein and Jon Kelley will be playing for the men.
