Tennis sweeps doubleheader from former D2 rivals

ABILENE - Abilene Christian women's tennis extended its winning streak to four matches and improved to 6-3 on the spring following Thursday's doubleheader sweep of its former NCAA DII rivals from Tarleton State and Texas Permian Basin.

ACU beat the TexAnns, 6-1, and swept the Falcons, 7-0 in junior Lucile Pothier's return to the court following an injury.

Pothier first played at No. 2 doubles with Whitney Williams vs. Tarleton State and won that match, 6-3. She then played singles and doubles vs. the Falcons, following a 6-0 win with Williams with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at the No. 3 position.

ACU's three doubles teams of Pothier/Williams, Erin Walker/Sarah Eleanor Adams (No. 1), and Jordan Henry/Ansley Boarman (No. 3) all went 3-0 today in raising the Wildcats' season doubles record to 26-18 (.591). Walker and Adams have won their last seven matches together and are 8-2 overall this spring, while the other two duos are 4-2.

In singles competition, both Walker and Williams were 2-0 playing at the No. 1 and 2 positions, and freshman Sarah Adams won her matches at No. 3 and 4 vs.Tarleton State and UTPB, respectively. Jordan Henry and Elizabeth Ryan also went unbeaten today, winning their matches between the No. 4, 5 and 6 positions.

The Wildcats are off for the rest of this weekend and return to action next Friday for the start of a busy road trip to Arkansas, where they'll face Harding, Arkansas State, and Central Arkansas in their Southland Conference opener.
