Women's tennis extends season-opening winning streak with victory over UIW

ABILENE - Abilene Christian women's tennis continued its dominance of Incarnate Word Friday by shutting the Cardinals out for the fifth-straight match, 7-0, on the indoor courts of the Teague Events Center.
The Cardinals fell to 1-11 on the season (0-1 Southland) following today's loss and haven't won a single point against ACU in singles or doubles since March of 2011, while the Wildcats improved to 5-0 (2-0 Southland) with a victory that included eight shutout sets.
ACU's No. 1 and 2 doubles teams of Brittney Reed and Kaysie Hermsdorf, and Lucile Pothier and Erin Walker, each blanked their opposition by matching 8-0 scores. The No. 3 tandem of Nada Marjanovic and Ansley Boarman then doubled up Matea Zemunik and Antea Dedic, 8-4.
Reed and Hermsdorf are now 10-0 on the spring, while Pothier and Walker moved to 4-0 overall at No. 2 and 2-0 vs. the Southland. The decision for Marjanovic and Boarman was their first together in dual play after going 1-3 at the Indiana Winter Invitational.
In singles competition, No. 4 Pothier and No. 5 Marjanovic each pitched a shutout and Walker came within a point of doing so at No. 3, beating Sarah Savedra, 6-1, 6-0.
Kaysie Hermsdorf ran her unbeaten streak to seven with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Matea Zemunik, and Reed improved to 4-1 at No. 1 after topping Rachel Sadiq, 7-5, 6-3.
Boarman clinched the team shutout with her victory at No. 6 over Maria Batchinsky, 6-0, 6-3.
ACU's women's team is off from competition until the weekend of March 19, when it will hit the road for matches vs. Tyler, Stephen F. Austin and Northwestern State.
