Grant Boone enters his 13th consecutive season in 2020-21 as play-by-play broadcaster, interviewer and host for ACU Athletics. He began calling ACU games as a student in 1990 and continued on a part-time basis throughout the next 15 years before returning to the role full-time in 2008.
In addition to play-by-play responsibilities, he also co-hosts Wildcat coaches shows produced by ACU TV, interviews coaches for ACUSports.com, and writes across several university platforms, including ACU Today magazine.
When not on the air for ACU, Boone broadcasts golf tournaments, primarily LPGA events for Golf Channel and the Masters and PGA Championship for CBS Sports, as well as other live sports for national and regional networks.
After graduating from ACU in 1991 with a degree in journalism and mass communication, Boone was a news reporter for KTXS television in Abilene, then became sports director for USA Radio Network in Dallas where he covered the Super Bowl, Final Four, major championship golf and tennis tournaments and postseason games in the four major sports. He also called live sporting events, including Navy football, for a variety of media outlets, including ESPN, Fox Sports, Turner Sports, CBS Sports Network and PGA Tour Radio.
In 2001, Boone was named a Gutenberg Award winner for excellence in journalism by the ACU department of journalism and mass communication. In 2013, he was named Outstanding Broadcaster of the Year by the Lone Star Conference.
Boone and his wife, Amy (Nichols ’92), were married in 1991. Their son Andrew graduated from ACU in 2019, while their son Nick is an ACU senior and their daughter Anna Claire is an ACU freshman.
