Wildcats Close Out Road Trip in SEC Country Versus Sooners

NORMAN, Okla. — Abilene Christian volleyball dropped a three-set affair to Oklahoma at McCasland Field House on Sunday afternoon, snapping a four-match winning streak. The Wildcats closed out their six-match road trip before returning to Moody Coliseum for next week's Wildcat Classic.
ACU hosts Louisiana Tech at 6 p.m. Thursday to open the tournament, then meets Prairie View A&M at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The Wildcats close it out versus Stephen F. Austin at 1 p.m. Saturday with PJs and Pancakes. It's also the team's Alumni Weekend, capped with its First Serve Dinner at 5 p.m. Saturday.
Tickets for the First Serve Dinner are available until 11:59 p.m. Monday and can be purchased here.
Avery Thaler and Hadlee Welch paced ACU with seven kills apiece, with Thaler doing so on 10 swings with a .600 attack percentage. She leads the United Athletic Conference with a .410 attack percentage. Thaler registered a solo block, and Welch assisted on a block with Hannah Gonzalez.
Maddie Finnegan chipped in six kills and a service ace. Rachel Koss assisted on 25 attacks to take the UAC lead with 335, and Ramirez added eight digs to pace the conference with 174.
The Wildcats were within striking distance of the Sooners for much of the first set, with ACU notching two points out of the media timeout to make it a 15-14 game. Oklahoma followed with a 5-0 run, upping its lead to 23-16. It held on the rest of the way for a 25-17 win. Finnegan and Alyssa Todd each had a trio of kills in the frame.
The Sooners broke open the second set with a 7-1 rally to grab a 12-6 edge. Oklahoma continued to control the tempo and secured the set to the tune of a 25-12 victory.
The Wildcats gave the Sooners all they could handle in the third frame as both squads traded points throughout. Welch came to life with six kills at a .667 clip, while Thaler and Finnegan had three apiece. Koss set them up for success with 13 assists. ACU knotted the score at 21, but Oklahoma closed on a 4-1 streak to take a 25-22 win.
