Ramirez Collects Second UAC Defensive Player of the Week Honor

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Abilene Christian volleyball's Brennan Ramirez was named the United Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. The redshirt sophomore libero received the honor for the second time in three weeks after fueling the Wildcats to a road sweep of West Georgia on Saturday.
It's the fifth weekly conference honor of the season for ACU, who dropped a five-set match to North Alabama on Thursday before rebounding with a 3-0 win over the Wolves. Ramirez totaled 55 digs to average 6.88 per set, both the top marks in the UAC last week. She added 11 assists and a pair of service aces with no errors on 38 receptions.
ACU returns to Moody Coliseum for a three-match homestand beginning versus Austin Peay at 6 p.m. Thursday on Greek Night. The Wildcats then host Little Rock at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Ramirez opened her week with a 28-dig effort against the Lions, one shy of her career best. She matched her career high with seven assists and chipped in a pair of aces. It tied for the most digs by a UAC player last week and tied for fifth-most in a five-set match nationally.
The Waxahachie, Texas native followed with a record performance against West Georgia, tallying 27 digs to limit the Wolves to an .097 hitting percentage. It was the most digs in a three-set UAC match last week, and Ramirez tied ACU's Division I record for digs in a three-set match. It tied for third-most in the nation this season.
Ramirez tops the UAC in averaging 5.17 digs per set this season, while her 279 total digs rank second. Both statistics rank sixth nationally. Ramirez's 757 career digs in 171 sets rank ninth in the Wildcats' DI record book as the only player with fewer than 200 sets played. Madison Hoover's 1,200 digs in 261 sets from 2013-15 top the list. Ramirez is second with 4.43 digs per set.
