ABILENE — Abilene Christian volleyball put a bow on nonconference play with a 3-1 win over Stephen F. Austin in the Wildcat Classic at Moody Coliseum on Saturday. The Wildcats picked up their first win over the Ladyjacks since 2017 and marked their seventh victory in their past eight matches.

ACU enters United Athletic Conference action amid its best start in the Division I era at 8-4. The Wildcats begin the conference slate on the road versus North Alabama at 6 p.m. Thursday before meeting West Georgia at 12 p.m. (CT) next Saturday.

ACU completed a 3-0 undefeated showing at the Wildcat Classic, its first sweep of a three-game tournament since 2023. Hannah Gonzalez, Rachel Koss and Brennan Ramirez each represented the Wildcats on the All-Tournament Team.

Gonzalez collected 13 kills at a .375 attack percentage alongside a service ace and three blocks against SFA. The reigning UAC Player of the Week finished her big weekend with 33 kills at a .431 clip with 11 blocks, including three solo rejections, and three aces.

Aubrey Beaver delivered her second consecutive 12-kill outing, while Hadlee Welch and Avery Thaler had nine kills apiece. Annaleise Sevier rounded out the offensive attack with seven kills. Koss registered her second double-double of the season, dishing out 41 assists and 12 digs. She added an ace and three blocks. Koss totaled 109 assists, five kills, five aces, 20 digs and six blocks across three games in the Wildcat Classic.

Ramirez patrolled the defense with 19 digs, one of a trio of Wildcats with double-digit digs. She chipped in six assists and an ace. Ramirez totaled 50 digs and 10 assists over the weekend. Abby Christian recorded an ace and 10 digs on Saturday.

ACU struck first with a 25-20 victory in the opening set. The Wildcats grabbed the lead at 9-8 and didn't look back, building a cushion with three points in a row to make it 24-19. Sevier sealed the win with her third kill of the set. She was one of three Wildcats with a trio of kills alongside Gonzalez and Beaver. Gonzalez added a solo block and an ace.

The Ladyjacks evened the score at one set apiece with a wire-to-wire 25-15 victory in the second set. Thaler provided three kills for ACU.

Both teams were even in the early going of the third set before the Wildcats rattled off four straight points for a 12-8 advantage. ACU held on to its lead the rest of the way en route to a 25-22 victory. Welch came to life with five kills at a .400 clip, while Beaver provided four kills. Gonzalez turned each of her three swings into kills. Koss tallied 11 assists to go with a pair of blocks.

The Wildcats battled the Ladyjacks in a tightly-contested fourth set that saw both squads trade points. With a 21-20 edge, ACU built a 3-0 rally to pave the way to a 25-22 win and clinch the match. Gonzalez rose to the occasion with five kills at .444 with a block, while Welch and Beaver combined for seven kills. Koss had 11 assists and five digs.
