Gonzalez Earns Back-to-Back UAC Player of the Week Honors

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Abilene Christian volleyball's Hannah Gonzalez stayed sizzling and was named the United Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Gonzalez received the UAC honor for the second week in a row after fueling ACU to a 3-0 showing at the Wildcat Classic over the weekend.
Gonzalez shared the accolade with Eastern Kentucky's Emilee Hill as the Wildcats were recognized by the conference for the third week in a row, totaling four honors this season. ACU has won seven of its last eight matches and, at 8-4, is off to its best start since 2010.Â
The Wildcats begin UAC play with a pair of road matches this week, meeting North Alabama at 6 p.m. Thursday before playing West Georgia at 12 p.m. (CT) Saturday.
Gonzalez totaled 33 kills at a .431 hitting percentage across three wins over Louisiana Tech, Prairie View A&M and Stephen F. Austin. She added 11 blocks, including three solo rejections, to total 43.0 points. The senior middle blocker ranked second in the UAC last week in hitting percentage and with 3.91 points per set.
Gonzalez got her weekend started with an eight-kill performance at .357 efficiency in a sweep of the Bulldogs. The Lucas, Texas native chipped in two service aces and four blocks. Gonzalez followed with 12 kills at a .550 clip with four blocks against Prairie View A&M. She stuffed two attacks on her own at the net. Her attack efficiency was the third-highest in a UAC match last week.
Gonzalez wrapped up her weekend by powering ACU to its first win over Stephen F. Austin since 2017. She recorded a team-high 13 blocks at .375 with three blocks and an ace. The Wildcats led the UAC in kills per set and ranked second in hitting percentage last week.
Gonzalez ranks in the conference's top seven for hitting percentage (.339), blocks (48) and points (155.5). She is within the top 10 in ACU's Division I era for kills, attack percentage, blocks and points.
