ACU Begins NCAA West First Round on Wednesday

The Abilene Christian track and field team competes in the NCAA West First Round beginning Wednesday morning in Fayetteville, Ark. at John McDonnell Field.
Five athletes will represent the Wildcats with WAC champion hammer thrower Rhet Punt the first to compete on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. The top 12 of 48 throwers advance to the national championship meet in Eugene, Oreg.
Miguel Hall will run in the 110 Hurdles on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. He is in the second of six preliminary heats. The top three from each heat, plus the next six fastest times will comprise a field of 24 runners for the NCAA West Quarterfinals on Friday at 6:15 p.m.
ACU's two female participants will take center stage Thursday night with Chianel Asoburuenwu in the 100, and Mariana Van Dyk in the shot put. Both events start at 7 p.m. Asoburuenwu runs in heat 4, with 24 runners moving on to the quarterfinal race on Saturday at 6:35 p.m. Van Dyk must score in the top 12 of throwers to continue on to Eugene.
Triple jumper Arthur Jenkins, who won silver at the WAC Championships on May 16, is scheduled to compete on Friday at 6 p.m. From the field of 48, the top 12 advance to the national meet.
Portions of the meet will be streamed on ESPN+ with coverage beginning at 6 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, and 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
To qualify for the NCAA First Round, an athlete must be in the top 48 of his/her respective event in the region.
