Before ACU
In 2023-2025, she spent the entire redshirting at East Carolina University. In the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school years, she competed for Mt Olive University, a NCAA D-2 school in Conference Carolinas. In the 2023 season, she placed 2 nd in the 200 and 4 th in the 60 at the conference indoor meet. In the 2024 season, she won the conference indoor 60, while also placing 5 th in the 200. Outdoors that same year, she had a spectacular outdoor championship as she won the 100 and 200, as well as anchoring the winning 4x100 and 4x400 relays. During those 2 years, Chianel was a 3-time recipient of the Conference Carolinas Indoor Track Athlete of the Week and 2-time recipient of the Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week. She left Mt Olive as the school record holder in the 60 (7.57), 100 (11.55), and 200 (23.84). During her HS senior year, she placed 5 th in the Adidas Outdoor Nationals 100 competing for Athens Drive HS in Raleigh, NC. At ACU, she will have 2 years of eligibility left both indoors and outdoors.

Personal
Chianel was a 2022 graduate of the Wake STEM Early College Academy in Raleigh, NC. Her parents are Friday and Florence Asoburuenwu. She also has 2 brothers – Mike and Divine – and a sister, Victory. At ACU, she is a Health Sciences major.
