Hall, Punt Kickoff NCAA West First Round for Wildcats

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The first two of Abilene Christian's five qualified athletes took part in the NCAA West First Round Track and Field Championships on Wednesday at the University of Arkansas' John McDonnell Stadium.
Forecasted thunderstorms forced meet officials to bump running events up to the early afternoon. Miguel Hall, a junior from Spring, Texas, ran the 110M Hurdles in 14.09 seconds which was 6th out of eight racers in his prelimiary heat., and 39th overall out of the field of 48. Hall's time was just a quarter of a second off the pace of the last qualifer to the NCAA West Quarterfinals which will are scheduled to run Friday evening.
Western Athletic Conference champion Rhet Punt competed in the hammer throw -- the meet's first event on Wednesday morning. However, the junior from Estonia recorded fouls on each of his three attempts and did not produce a countable mark.
Two more Wildcats will compete in the NCAA West First Round on Thursday. Both Chaniel Asoburuenwu (women's 100M) and Mariana Van Dyk (women's shot put) are scheduled to take part in their respective events at 7 p.m.
Arthur Jenkins will compete in the men's triple jump on Friday at 6 p.m.
