ABILENE — The Wildcats defeated the University of the Incarnate Word 5-2 on Friday at the Judi and Cecil Eager Tennis Pavilion. The Cats secured the victory with strong singles performances, winning four of the six matches, and claimed the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.
Abilene Christian secured the doubles point with victories on No. 1 and No. 2 doubles courts. Alice Klinteby / Masha Vrsalovic defeated their opponents 6-4, while Victoria Correa / Angela Del Campo clinched with a 6-3 win over the Cardinals.
In singles action, Vrsalovic extended the lead for the Wildcats with a straight-set victory at No. 1 singles, winning her match 6-2, 6-2. At No. 4 singles, Correa added another point for the Wildcats with a 7-6(3), 6-2 win. Elsa Luthar closed out the match with a 7-5, 7-5 triumph at No. 5 singles.
Both squads made quick work of their opponents, finishing every match in straight sets.
UP NEXT
The Wildcats will have a day's break before hosting Texas State University Sunday at noon. The Bobcats will be coming off a match against Tarleton State but are currently 4-2 on the season.
