LUBBOCK, Texas — The Abilene Christian women's tennis team finished its opening weekend with a 6-1 victory over UT Rio Grande Valley on Monday afternoon at the Lubbock Country Club's indoor courts.
The Wildcats made quick work in doubles with the pairings of
Maria Cascos /
Angela Del Campo, and
Victoria Correa /
Jess Board winning their respective matches over the Vaqueros, 6-1.
Masha Vrsalovic /
Alice Klinteby were on their win to a win, up 5-2, when the doubles point was clinched by Cascos and Del Campo.
ACU won five of the six singles matches led by Vrsalovic winning at the top line, 6-4, 6-0. Klinteby and
Elsa Luthar also won their singles matches in straight sets. Cascos led 6-2, 4-0 when her opponent retired, and Correa pulled out a win at No. 5 singles. Tied at one set apiece, Correa ran away with the deciding tiebreaker 10-2.
ACU is now 4-3 against UTRGV dating back to 2011, and has won two straight matches.
The Wildcats began their season with a 6-1 loss in Dallas against SMU on Friday evening, then traveled to play No. 20 Texas Tech in Lubbock where ACU fell 7-0.

ACU visits Tulsa on Sunday with the team duel beginning at 11 a.m.

The Cats' home opener is at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 30, against UTSA, and then at 4 p.m. the following day versus Stephen F. Austin.
