Women's Tennis Opens Spring at SMU, Heads to Lubbock Next

DALLAS — The Abilene Christian women's tennis team began its 2026 spring season with a 6-1 loss to the SMU Mustangs on Friday afternoon.

The Wildcats battled in a pair of singles matches. At the No. 4 spot, Alice Klinteby lost to Natalie Stasny, 6-3, 6-3, while at No. 6 singles Elsa Lutha held strong against Eliana Kook, 6-4, 6-4.

ACU's lone victory came at No. 2 singles as Maria Cascos won when her opponent, Ellie Mireles, retired the match.

The Wildcats reached the semifinals of the 2025 WAC Team Tennis Championships, marking their third appearance in the tournament's semifinals in four seasons.

ACU is led by a strong class of four seniors: Masha Vrsalovic, Alice Klinteby, Angela Del Campo and Cascos, who is a two-time all-conference player and was named to the 2024-25 All-WAC First Team. In the fall, Vrsalovic was the singles runner-up in the WAC Tennis Invitational. She and partner Klinteby also made the doubles final.

The Wildcats play another Power 4 opponent on Sunday at Texas Tech, which is ranked No. 20 in the ITA Preseason Poll. The match is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start at Tech's outdoor McLeod Tennis Center.

ACU will stay in Lubbock to play UT Rio Grande Valley on Monday at 11:30 a.m.

Fans can watch both matches through Texas Tech's PlaySight channel, and live stats are planned to be made available for the match against the Red Raiders.
