Wildcats Compete in Masked Rider Open in Lubbock

LUBBOCK – Impending bad weather caused the Masked Rider Open on the Texas Tech University campus to be moved up to yesterday. The weather conditions were still far from ideal – chilly and blustery. Many of the athletes who competed last weekend at the Texas Relays and the Bobcat Invitational did not compete this week, but there were several noteworthy performances during the day that included both personal bests (PB) and season bests (SB).
WOMEN
WOMEN
- Hana Banks finished 6th in the 100 hurdles with a PB time of 14.03
- Heptathlete Natalie Poe competed in multiple events during the meet, including a 2nd place finish in the high jump in a small field, with a PB of 5-3/1.60 and14th place finish in the 200 with a PB time of 25.67.
- The 400 meter saw three freshmen run SB times – Emma Santoro – 56.26 (6th place), Jalyn Childers – 56.74 (8 th place) and Gracee Whitaker – 58.18 (11th place). Also, in the 400, senior Ja'Kaylon Record ran a PB time of 56.87 (9th place), as well as placing 9 th in the 100.
- Freshman Madison Anderson ran a SB time of 4:56.67 in the 1500, placing 10th .
- Laya'Lapri Ratney placed 10 th in 2 sprint events, with a time of 12.37 in the 100 (her first time to run the event as a Wildcat) and a SB time of 25.31 in the 200.
- The throwers continue to shine for the Wildcats as freshman Mariana Van Dyk notched SB throws in the shot put (41-1/12.52 for 8 th place) and discus (133-0/40.54 for 11 th place); redshirt freshman Sterling Glenn threw the hammer to a new SB with a toss of 154-9/47.18 for 4 th place, as well as finishing 6 th in the shot put with a throw of 42-10.75/13.07; Avery Myrick placed 9 th in the hammer with a throw of 135-9/41.37; and freshman Nele Huth placed 4 th in the javelin throwing 123-4/41.37.
- In the 110 hurdles, Miguel Hall placed 3rd with a time of 14.16, as decathlete Canaan Fairley placed 7th with a time of 14.76
- The 1500 saw 2 freshmen with top-10 finishes, both with SB times – Carlos Cortez in 8 th with a 4:03.81 and Andrew Roberts in 10 th with a 4:05.23.
- Freshman decathlete Collin McCrillis competed in his first meet of the year, throwing the javelin 158-5/48.30 for a 7th place finish.
- Benjamin Castro finished 9th in the 800 with a time of 1:55.28.
- ACU throwers also had a solid day in the ring as Sutton Welch threw the hammer 186-10/56.94 for 4 th place and Stone Smith placed 9 th in the discus with a SB throw of 159-9/48.69, only a foot off his PB.
