Biography
2024-2025: Cross-Country: Competed in all 6 XC meets during the season. Early in the season, finished 17th in the Gerald Richey UTA Invitational (the #3 ACU finisher). During the championship meets at the end of the XC season, Carlosjose finished 42nd at the WAC Championships and finished the year by placing 107th in the South Central Region XC Championships in College Station. He was the #4 finisher for ACU for both the conference and regional championships.
Before ACU: Carlosjose had a stellar career at Troy HS. As a senior, he placed 4th in the 3A state XC meet and followed that in the spring going to the 3A state state in 2 events, finishing 5th in the 1600 and climbing onto the medal stand with a 3rd place finish in the 3200. His PR time in the 3200 (9:29.19) put him #93 in Texas for all high schoolers in that event. His junior year, he also went to state in XC, placing 11th in the 3A race and just missed a trip to state on the track – in the Reg III-3A meet he placed 3rd in the 800 and 4th in the 1600. As a HS sophomore, Carlosjose went to state in XC for the first time, finishing 53rd in 3A. That same year, he placed 6th in the 3A 1600 at the state track meet in his first trip to Austin for track and field. At the finish of his HS career, Carlosjose held the school records for the 1600 and 3200 on the track and in the 5K in XC. He received 4 letters in both XC and T&F. He was a 6-time state qualifier – 3 times in XC and 3 different events in track. He was also Academic All-State in both XC and T&F.
Personal: Carlosjose graduated from Troy HS in the spring of 2024, receiving the Team Tacala scholarship. He will major in Finance at ACU. His parents are Eugenia Monroy and Ignacio Cortez and he has three brothers – JuanIgnacio, Heriberto, and Vicente - and 2 sisters – Isabel and Nanci.
Why did you choose ACU? It felt like a perfect fit. Loved the coaching and the team was amazing.
