Wildcats headed to Pacific Northwest for WAC Championships

ABILENE, Texas – The ACU track and field programs are headed to their first-ever WAC Outdoor Championships this week, which will be hosted at the University of Washington and take place from May 12 to May 14. The Wildcats have consistently been one of the league's premier teams dating back to the indoor season, when the ACU women finished just six total points out of first place.
"We are excited about this week, as this is a great opportunity for our team. Across the board, we are making some great things happen," head coach Jerrod Cook said. "Our last meet had some very positive showing from the entire team, and that's a huge confidence boost going into this week. We are trying to focus on our process and trust in our training, but there are still huge goals out there for us as a team."
The Wildcat women were picked at the top of the pre-championship coaches poll, while the ACU men were selected fourth. The full poll can be viewed by clicking here.
The ACU women will be led by thrower Annina Brandenburg, who has broken multiple school records and collected more WAC Athlete of the Week awards than any student-athlete in the league this spring. On the track, Megan Kirby and Taylor Tolen have been a couple of the most consistent performers for the Purple and White, while the distance squads have run from the front for the bulk of the season.
On the men's side, J.J. Ply is slated to make some noise for the Wildcats after posting big mark after big mark this spring in multiple events. Tyler Richardson is the team's top thrower and currently ranks in the top three in both the shot put and the hammer, while Jamal January is one of the top versatile threats in the conference, competing in hurdles, long jump and both relays.
