ACU Tennis Week In Review: Hach Wins Two Titles At New Mexico State

ABILENE - Abilene Christian junior Hans Hach won New Mexico State's Aggie Invitational singles and doubles championships Sunday morning in Las Cruces, N.M.
A native of Culiacan, Mexico, Hach won his second consecutive singles title there earlier today after defeating Western New Mexico's Rodrigo Almeida, 6-2, 6-0. In doubles, he paired with Borja Cortés to win the championship, 8-1, over the Aggie tandem of Daniel Fernandez and Naveen Manivannan.
In reaching the finals, Hach and Cortés were forced to beat duos from Western New Mexico, Arizona and New Mexico State.
Hach's road to winning the singles championship included victories over Trevor Unger of Northern Arizona and Strahinja Trecakov and Eduardo Carbrita of New Mexico State.
Cortés, meanwhile, went 2-2 in singles play and got as far as the quarterfinals where he lost to Aggie Luis Ramirez.
ACU's women's team's was in Lawrence, Kan., this weekend for the Kansas Invitational where its full roster posted an overall record of 29-14 (.674). This combined mark included an 18-9 (.667) singles record and 11-5 (.688) doubles record.
Two of the Wildcats' doubles victories were against the No. 28 ranked team of Petra Niedermayerova and Karla Bonacic of Kansas State. ACU's Julia Mongin and Brittney Reed defeated them in the first round of doubles, 8-6, en route to a third-place showing, and then the pairing of Micah Hermsdorf and Hannah Kelley beat them, 8-3, in the A Draw consolation final.
Both of ACU's A Draw doubles teams finished with 3-1 records, as did its B Draw tandem of Kaysie Hermsdorf and Laura Mongin. The combination of Emily Conrad, Madelyn Walker and Jamie Lee Denton went 2-2.
Eight of nine Wildcats finished with a winning singles record and were led by freshman Kaysie Hermsdorf, who was the only one to win her draw behind a 3-0 record. Hermsdorf won the G Singles Draw after scoring consecutive straight set wins over competitors from Missouri-Kansas City, Kansas and Wichita State.
Elsewhere in singles, Micah Hermsdorf, Reed and Denton each finished third in the B, C and H draws, respecitvely, while Julia and Laura Mongin won the A and E Flight back draws.
Conrad also rebounded with two victories to win the G Flight back draw, and Walker won two of three round-robin contests.
The Wildcat tennis teams will be in action at home this coming weekend, Sept. 29 to Oct. 1, as hosts of the ITA Regional Championships.
