
Wildcats Dominate in ASUN Tournament Opening Round

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Abilene Christian defeated Queens University of Charlotte 4-0 in round one of the ASUN Men's Tennis Championship on Tuesday at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
The Wildcats, now 10-6 and winners of six straight matches, advance to face No. 2 seeded North Alabama on Wednesday at 4 p.m. CT in the quarterfinals.
No. 7 ACU secured the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions and swept the singles matches at the No. 2, No. 5, and No. 6 spots.
ACU's Luis Jose Nakamine, who was voted to the All-ASUN First Team, and Tomas Quesada claimed a 6-3 win over Tanner Cooley and Alex Morris at No. 2 doubles. ASUN All-Freshman Team member Jorge Aza, and Dennis Dutine followed with a 6-2 triumph against Hamilton Huitt and Gavin Ryan at No. 3 doubles. The No. 1 doubles match was left unfinished with the Wildcats' Merse Deli and Ethan Scribner leading Filippo Scala and Noe Villen, 5-4.
In singles, Abilene Christian extended its lead with a dominant performance. Aza extended his singles winning streak to eight matches in a row with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Ryan at No. 5 singles, pushing the dual match score to 2-0. Quesada at No. 2 singles secured another point by defeating Morris, 6-2, 6-3. The match was clinched at No. 6 singles, where Scribner posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Cooley, giving the Wildcats the decisive fourth point.
Nakamine and Deli's matches at No. 1 and No. 4 singles, respectively, were left unfinished with Nakamine leading 6-3, 3-2 and Deli ahead 6-4, 2-1. Dutine was also leading at No. 3 singles with a 7-5, 1-0 score when play was halted, resulting in a final dual score of 4-0 in favor of the Wildcats.
