ABILENE – The ACU offense struck early and often Friday night as the Wildcats pounded Texas A&M-International, 15-0 in a seven inning run rule at Crutcher Scott Field.
ACU snaps a brief two-game losing streak improving to 7-5 as they also snapped the Dustdevils five-game winning as they fall to 9-5 on the season. Tomorrow's scheduled seven inning game has also been pushed forward an hour to a 1:35 p.m. start time.
The Wildcats jumped on the Dustdevils early as the first four batters singled to lead off the game. By the time TAMIU finally recorded the third out in the bottom of the first the Wildcats had posted seven runs on seven hits and took advantage of four errors.
Aaron Oliver had two base hits in the first inning and an RBI as he was just one of four Wildcats to record three hits on the night. Oliver finished the night going 3-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored.
Ian Tomkins also went a perfect 3-for-3 on the night with three runs scored and an RBI double in the fifth inning. Tomkins double started another ACU rally as the Wildcats plated four more runs on four hits to take a 12-0 lead.
The Dustdevils had a hard time finding the strike zone in the sixth as walks plagued TAMIU and helped kick-start a three-run inning for the Wildcats. After it was all said and done, ACU had pounded out 16 hits on the night and scored 15 runs in a shutout victory.
Cameron Watten pitched all seven for the win, his first of the season, holding the Dustdevils scoreless. Watten let his defense work behind him scattering four hits and only walking one.
Cameron Bankston and Will Calhoun also had three hits for ACU and a pair of RBIs respectively. Calhoun blasted a double off the wall in left center while Bankston smoked one of three Wildcat triples on the night, into the right center gap before easily sliding safely into third base.
First pitch from Crutcher Scott Field is set for 1:35 p.m. as the Wildcats and Dustdevils will play a twin bill before wrapping up their four game series on Sunday at 1:05 p.m.
