Brett Doe Joins ACU Baseball Staff as Associate Head Coach

ABILENE - A Texas native and a proven developer of talent, Brett Doe joined the Abilene Christian baseball staff as associate head coach, head coach Rick McCarty announced Wednesday. Doe heads to Abilene with five seasons as a junior college head coach under his belt, spending the past two years at Tyler Junior College.
A product of Mesquite, Texas, Doe has advanced 91 student-athletes to the Division I level, including a number of Wildcats. He was an NJCAA World Series finalist as both an assistant coach and a student-athlete at Navarro College before taking on the head coaching position at Dodge City Community College from 2022-24.
Doe powered TJC to a 68-45 record over the past two seasons with a trip to the program's first regional final at the NJCAA Division I level in 2025. Twenty-seven Apaches progressed to DI baseball under Doe's watch. TJC won 35 division matchups and finished second in the league both seasons, with four Apaches named All-Conference in 2026.

Brett's ability to connect with players while also leading and developing them has stood out to me over the years. This past season, the Apaches led the NJCAA Region 14 North Division in hits (500), extra-base hits (187), home runs (71), runs (449) and slugging percentage (.513). TJC paced the division and ranked fifth in the NJCAA in stolen bases (176). Its pitching staff ranked third in ERA (6.17) and strikeouts (386). In 2025, the Apaches sported a 5.27 ERA with 453 punchouts.
Before making his way to East Texas, Doe was the head coach at Dodge City in Kansas for three seasons. The Conquistadors posted a 96-79 record under Doe, culminating in him earning KJCCC West Coach of the Year honors in 2024. In Doe's first season on the job, Dodge City displayed a seven-win improvement from 2021.
The Conqs built a 38-win campaign in 2024, placing third in the KJCCC West division with a 20-12 mark, their most victories and conference victories since 2017 and second-most in program history. Dodge City continued to make history, winning a first round playoff series for the first time since 2017.
Twenty-two Dodge City ballplayers earned All-Conference accolades under Doe, while three picked up All-Region VI honors alongside a KJCCC Gold Glove recipient. Thirteen Conquistadors signed with DI programs, including future Wildcats Zandt Payne and Blake Anderson.
Doe served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at his alma mater, Navarro College, from 2017-21, guiding the Bulldogs to four Region 14 titles and a 2019 NJCAA World Series berth. Navarro built a 190-104-1 record with Doe assisting in game and practice planning, recruiting strategy and strength and conditioning efforts. Forty-seven Bulldogs earned Division I scholarships with Doe on staff, including ACU's Riley Bauman, Tanner Riley, Collin Chaney, Mark Geisel, Matt Muñoz and Robert Salazar.
Over the 2024 and 2025 summers, Doe worked as the hitting coach for the Chatham Anglers of the Cape Cod Baseball League, the preeminent league of collegiate summer baseball. While in Chatham, Doe coached a total of 20 players who were selected in the 2025 and 2026 MLB Drafts, seven of which were hitters. He mentored 2026 SEC Player of the Year and Golden Spikes Award winner Daniel Jackson and a 2026 first-round pick in Ace Reese.
An infielder and a catcher in his playing days, Doe powered Navarro to an NJCAA World Series title as a freshman in 2011 and was later named a team captain and Academic All-American. He wrapped up his collegiate career with two seasons at Baylor, where he started 77 games at both catcher and shortstop. Doe was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 38th round of the 2014 MLB Draft and spent three years in the organization before retiring to begin his collegiate coaching career.
Doe is married to his wife, Alexandra, with a son, Lou, and two daughters, Ada and Ella.
