EL PASO – Abilene Christian women's soccer kicked off its 2025 season in winning fashion Thursday night, securing a 1-0 road victory over UTEP. With the result, the Wildcats improve to 5-1-2 all-time against the Miners and have now claimed four of their last five matchups in El Paso.
Amelia Leggett wasted little time making her mark in her season debut. In the 17th minute, Leggett found space inside the box and slotted home the game's lone goal off a pinpoint assist from Baylie Simon, giving ACU the early advantage.
The Wildcat's defense and goalkeeping tandem took over from there. Emma Konsmo started between the posts, making three first-half saves to keep UTEP off the board, before Bella Medrano took over in the second half and added two more stops to complete the combined shutout. ACU withstood consistent pressure down the stretch, as UTEP outshot the Wildcats 14-9 and earned six corner kicks, but the back line stood firm.
Offensively, ACU generated quality chances throughout the night, led by Peyton Hill's three shots, two of which were on frame. The Wildcats also showed discipline in a physical contest that featured three yellow cards in the final 15 minutes.
The victory continues ACU's recent dominance in the series and gives the Wildcats their first win of the season. ACU will now turn its attention to Sunday's game against New Mexico State on August 17. Last time the Wildcats were in Las Cruses, the Aggies were able to come on top in 2022 with a final score of 1-0.
