Soccer Withstands Barrage of Shots, Draws Cougars 0-0

ABILENE – The Wildcats (1-1-2) held the Cougars from the University of Houston (2-0-2) scoreless in Thursday evening's match. Despite 20 shots and eight on goal, Bella Medrano stood strong against the Houston offense allowing ACU to draw the Big 12 team.
Medrano's performance was impressive as the Cougars had scored four and five goals in their last two games on 27 and 22 shots, respectively.
The Wildcats had only two shots on goal out of their seven attempts, led by Shakira Kafero Roberts' two shots with one forcing Houston to make the save. Mikayla Abrenica also tallied two shots, while Raelin Miller recorded the second shot on goal.
Baylie Simon and McKenzie Glass each received a yellow card for the Wildcats in a physical second half that saw 11 fouls between the two teams.
"A good result in hosting Big 12 opponent, University of Houston, in front of a large crowd," head coach Stephen Salas said. "Houston had scored nine goals in two games, so for us to get the shutout was massive. Bella, our back line, and our team defending came up big, and we had some good looks in the attacking third but still need to keep our poise in those areas. Proud of the team, as we keep on growing and continue to show a lot of promise. We are looking forward to hosting East Texas A&M on Sunday."
UP NEXT
The Wildcats continue to hunt for the first home goal and the first home win in their Sunday matchup against East Texas A&M University. The Lions fell Thursday night to Texas State 2-0 in San Marcos.
