The Abilene Christian men's basketball team starts its two-game run in the
Jacksonville Classic, presented by Just Play on Monday night in Florida.
The Wildcats face the UTSA Roadrunners from the American Conference in the finale of a quadruple header on Monday. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT, but could be delayed depending on the length of day's previous games.
On Tuesday evening, ACU takes on William & Mary at 5:30 p.m. CT. Both games will be video streamed on
PassThaBall (paid subscription), and audio streamed on
the ACU Sports Network with
Grant Boone. All games will be played at Edward Waters University, which was founded as Florida's first independent institution for higher education in 1866.
ACU (3-2) is coming off a 63-49 loss at Texas State last Tuesday. The Wildcats could not their shooting rhythm as they finished with a season-low 31% field goal percentage.
UTSA, also 3-2 this season, lost to the same Texas State squad, 80-69, on Nov. 12. The Roadrunners have won back-to-back games: 84-79 at Denver, and 103-70 over NAIA member Southwestern Christian (Okla.).
William & Mary is 4-2 this season with two victories over Division II Georgian Court, and Division III Regent.
The Jacksonville Classic bills itself as the largest basketball event on the East Coast. ACU is one of ten teams taking part, along with fellow Texas schools UTSA and UTEP. The Miners are coached by former ACU player and head coach Joe Golding.
"We always choose mid season tournaments based on two things: location and competition,"Â Â said head coachÂ
Brette Tanner when the tournament field was announced in September. "We felt like taking the team to the city where we played our first NCAA Tournament game [in 2019] would be great and we knew the competition would be at the right level to help us prepare for the toughness of the WAC schedule. This event just felt like the perfect fit for us this year."
