ACU Falls Late in Senior Night Game, Hubbard Ties Record

ABILENE - Bradyn Hubbard scored 16 points to tie the program's Division I single-season scoring record, but the Abilene Christian men's basketball team sputtered down the stretch in a 64-57 loss to UT Arlington on Senior Day.

Hubbard entered his final game at Moody Coliseum in third place on the scoring leaderboard, and passed Ali Dibba for second place in the second half. He nailed a couple of free throws in the last few minutes to tie Jaylen Franklin's 2015-16 season with 486 points. Hubbard will have at least one more game to claim the record for himself during the 2026 Air Force Reserve WAC Basketball Tournament.

The Wildcats used a season-best 13-0 run to lead 17-7 eight minutes into the game, and were in front 33-25 at halftime. ACU held the Mavericks to just 29% shooting in the first half.

The ACU edge pushed to nine when Zy Wright made his only bucket of the game with 10:34 to play. That's when the Mavericks made their push. Cash Chavis made back-to-back free throws to give UTA a 51-50 lead, the team's first since it was 7-4 in the opening minutes. ACU was outscored 20-4 over the next 9:00 as the Maverick defense stiffened, allowing less than 30% from the field after halftime.

Senior players Rich Smith, Joseph Venzant, Bradyn Hubbard, and Zy Wright, and student manager Lane Dollar, were recognized pregame for their contributions to the ACU program.
Smith scored 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting, and Cbo Newton had 12 points on 6-of-9, and 6-for-6 from inside the 3-point arc. It was each player's 14th double-digit scoring game this season.
Venzant reentered the starting lineup on Senior Night for his 125th career start.
The Wildcats led 38-28 in points in the paint, and scored 12 points off 16 UTA turnovers.
Hubbard had two steals, pushing him to 97 for his career and passing Coryon Mason for 10th most in a Division I career.
Hubbard also went 7-of-8 at the free throw line which makes him the single-season leader in free throws made with 127.

ACU kicks off the 2026 Air Force Reserve WAC Basketball Tournament as the No. 6 seed in the field. The Wildcats face Tarleton State, a team they defeated two of three times in the regular season. Tipoff is 5:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday from Las Vegas' Orleans Arena.

The winner advances to play No. 3 Utah Tech on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. CT.
