Foster sets season-high in saves vs. UNT

ABILENE – ACU went to battle Sunday afternoon against one of the premier teams in Conference USA, North Texas, and despite a 2-0 defeat, fought to the very end. Sophomore goalkeeper Lily Foster had the biggest day of her young career, tallying 11 saves against a top-tier offense. The Wildcats (1-4) continued to show how strong their defense can be in 2021, as countless players made key plays defensively to give the team a chance in the second half; UNT did not score until the 74th minute Sunday.
"We lost today but I liked the way the team stuck to the game plan," said head coach Casey Wilson. "We played tough and we were able to build opportunities that that stats don't show. UNT is a big, physical team and we knew what to expect. It came down to giving them one too many corner kicks today."
The Goals
- 74' | UNT scored off a corner and a few deflections and the ball popped in off the foot of Allie Byrd.
- 80' | Byrd scored again for UNT, this time off an assist from Quincy Shepard.
The Numbers
- Foster's 11 saves set a new season-high; her seven against New Mexico State in the opener was the previous mark.
- UNT led 26-4 in shot attempts and 13-0 in shots on goal.
- ACU drew eight UNT fouls Sunday.
- Natalie Wodka tallied two shots, while Emily Heidman and Grace Ornelas each took one attempt.
Up Next
ACU will have the week off as they continue their month of home games. The Wildcats will host Grambling on Sunday, Sept. 19 at 1 p.m. at Elmer Gray Stadium for Senior Day.
