Wildcats ready for conference tournament

HAMMOND, La. – The Wildcats closed the season on a four-game winning streak and won seven of their last nine to clinch the eighth and final seed in the 2021 Southland Conference tournament. Their postseason journey begins on Tuesday afternoon when they will face tournament host, Southeastern Louisiana, in a single-elimination game. Should the Wildcats win, they will enter the full double-elimination bracket for the Southland tournament championship.

WILDCATS STORYLINES
- The Wildcats have rode a solid offense over the last three weeks of competition. In five of their seven wins the team has put up five or more runs.
- Sam Bradley continues her solid work in the circle earning all three wins in the series against the Islanders. She closed the season with a 4.43 ERA.
- Donelle Johnson was named to the all-conference second team on Monday. She leads the the with a .356 batting average and closed the season with a 3-4 performance that included two doubles and an inside-the-park homerun.
- Both Johnson and Shaylee Alani put together three-hit performances to help the Wildcats earn the final spot in the conference tournament.
- Kayla Keeling has been clutch for the Wildcats over their final three weekends. The senior hit a solo homerun in extra innings to give the Wildcats the lead and eventually the win at Nicholls. She then hit what would be the game winning homeruns in each of the final two wins of the season over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
- The Wildcats lost the series at SLU earlier this season but were able to take a game from the Lions, 5-4.
SCOUTING THE LIONS (27-21, 14-10 SLC)
- After a solid start to conference play, the Lions went 2-7 over their final three series.
- All-conference performers Audrey Greely and Aerial Mass led the Lions with .373 and .365 batting averages, respectively.
- Heather Zumo has been the team's top talent in the circle with a 15-6 record and a 2.36 ERA.
- The Lions were able to score at least five runs against the Wildcats in each of their three meetings in March. ACU will need to limit their success at the plate if they hope to earn the upset.
