Wildcats earn Friday night DH sweep

ABILENE—The Wildcats got the job done on Friday night with a doubleheader sweep of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to get one step closer to clinching a berth in the postseason. Samantha Bradley earned two more wins and the Wildcats offense came alive for 12 runs on the day.

Game 1
Offense was on display early and often for both teams as they got the day underway. The Islanders put a run on the board first, scoring on a sacrifice fly in the top of the first. The Wildcats answered with a run of their own on an RBI single from Shaylee Alani. AMCC took the 2-1 lead in the top of the second, but the Wildcats answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning capitalizing on an error and two hit by pitches. Each team scored a run in the third to keep the Wildcats lead at two runs, 5-3. Alani drove in another run in the fourth and Val Rudd was able to score on a throwing error to give the Wildcats a four-run lead that they held going into the top of the seventh. The Islanders were able to cut into the ACU lead but Bradley got a key strikeout and a popup to end the inning and secure the win.

Game 2
The Wildcats once again came out with their bats hot in game two. The team totaled four hits on just nine pitches in the bottom of the first inning resulting in two runs scored. The Islanders used a big third inning to take the 3-2 lead, but the Wildcats answered with a single run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 3-3. Kayla Keeling broke the tie in the fourth inning with a monster homerun to take a 5-3 lead. Bradley and the Wildcats defense was spectacular over the last three innings to hold on for the win and doubleheader sweep.
