ACU Softball Honors Four Players on Senior Day
4/25/2026 4:38:00 PM | Softball
ABILENE, Texas — The Abilene Christian softball team recognized its four senior players - Elizabeth Schaefer, Valerie Ornelas, Emalee Romero and Alaina Hampton - along with graduate assistant coach Catrin Hoffman during Saturday's Senior Day ceremony following a 10-0 loss to first-place California Baptist at Poly Wells Field. The Wildcats managed three hits, while the Lancers had two big innings: seven runs in the third, and three more in the fifth.
Despite the result, ACU still has its destiny in its own hands for the University Credit Union WAC Softball Tournament. The Wildcats are tied in the conference standings with Utah Tech. Those two teams square off in a three-game series to end the regular season on May 1-2 in St. George, Utah. The winner of the series will qualify for the postseason tournament.
ACU's Ari Maxwell, Audrey Lacina and Emerson Meggers supplied one hit each.
The Cats had a chance to break a scoreless tie with Lacina and Meggers singling in the bottom of the 2nd inning. However, Kyana Lipardo popped up to second base to leave two runners stranded.
Leah Meyer started the game for the Wildcats, pitching 2 1/3 innings while allowing six earned runs on four hits, with one walk and one strikeout. Makayla Valle took over in relief, throwing 2/3 inning and conceding one earned run on two hits, along with two walks and a strikeout. Ella Beeman completed the pitching effort for Abilene Christian, delivering 2 innings, yielding three earned runs on four hits, with one walk and one strikeout.
