Wildcats Can't Hold Off CBU in Friday Twinbill

ABILENE, Texas — The Abilene Christian softball team faced California Baptist in a doubleheader on Friday at Poly Wells Field, falling 13-0 in the first game and 10-3 in the second. The Wildcats struggled offensively, managing a total of eight hits across both contests while the Lancers combined for 20 hits.
Even with the results, ACU did not lose any ground in the race for the final spot in the 2026 University Credit Union WAC Softball Tournament which is being hosted by Tarleton State on May 6-9. The Wildcats remain tied for 6th place in the league after Utah Tech also lost twice on Friday. ACU and the Trailblazers square off in a three-game series next weekend in St. George, Utah.
The doubelheader was highlighted with a steal by freshman Ciana Arguijo, who broke ACU's Division I record for most stolen bases in a season with 18.
Game 1: CBU 13, ACU 0
In the first game, California Baptist achieved a decisive 13-0 victory with four runs in the 1st inning, three in the 4th and six in the 7th.
Alissa Snipes started for the Wildcats, pitching 4 1/3 innings and allowing eight hits and six earned runs, with four walks and two strikeouts. Lindsey Oliver pitched 2 2/3 innings in relief, allowing two hits and six earned runs. Valerie Ornelas led the offense with two hits, including a double, while Audrey Lacina and Ciana Arguijo each contributed a hit.
Game 2: CBU 10, ACU 3
Ciana Arguijo reached base on an error in the opening inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by Valerie Ornelas, giving the Wildcats an early run. However, California Baptist led 3-1 after the first inning.
In the third inning, Ari Maxwell walked and scored on an error, reducing the deficit to 5-2. The Wildcats continued to battle in the fourth inning, where Jadyn Dawson doubled and scored on Alaina Hampton's bases-loaded walk, but the Lancers maintained a 9-3 lead.
Ella Beeman started for the Wildcats, pitching 3 2/3 innings and allowing nine hits and nine runs, eight of which were earned. Makayla Valle entered in relief for 3 1/3 innings, giving up three hits and one earned run.
